If your health insurance is due for renewal in the first quarter of 2018 and the insurers say it is mandatory to furnish the Aadhar number to continue, you have company.
There have been a lot of instances where insurers have asked policyholders to produce their Aadhar numbers to renew their policies. However, the IRDAI has stated that by 31st of March policyholder should provide their PAN and Aadhar number for their policies.
If your insurer says it is mandatory to provide these for renewal, you can cite the above. There aren’t any hard and fast rules against which insurers can deny renewal under this pretext. One must note that the decision to link Aadhar with policies has been challenged in the Supreme Court and everyone is awaiting the verdict on the same.
The deadline for linking Aadhar with various financial services and insurance was postponed from 31st December 2017 to 31st March 2018. If you fail to link your Aadhar within the specified timeline, the insurer might suspend the benefits of your policy. It is thus advisable to update the same at the earliest.
