Insurance Cover for Autistic Children Launched by Star Health Insurance

Star Health, a standalone health insurer in India has launched a new plan, especially for autistic children. This kind of a plan is a new concept in the Indian market.

Children, who have been diagnosed with Autism and are between the age of 3 and 25 will be covered for a sum assured of Rs. 3 lakhs under this plan.

All inpatient and outpatient treatments like physiotherapy, behavioural therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy will be covered under this plan. Any autism associated surgical or medical complications, like bone and soft tissue injury, seizure treatment, the surgical and medical procedure for muscular spasm are all covered under this special policy.

No pre-medical check-up is required to take this policy. The policy will be issued by Star Health and Allied Insurance based on the diagnosis and treatment.

The CMD of the company, V Jagannathan, said the company is always trying to introduce products which cater to the specific and special needs of individuals who have been neglected by the Indian health insurance industry.

Nearly 2.2 million children in India, as per the Census of 2011, in the age group of 2-9 years were diagnosed with the Autism Spectrum Disorder.
