Early life

Barbara Mori was born in Uruguay and started her modelling career at an early age of 14. In 1998, she made her acting debut in the Mexican telenovelas. In India she is best-known for her lead role in the movie “Kites”, starring Hrithik Roshan.

Struggle with Cancer

At the peak of her success in 2007 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. The disease was detected during one of her regular visits to the gynecologist. Fighting the disease was an uphill task for Barbara. She faced extreme side effects like weakness and hair loss due to the chemo and radiation therapies she had to undergo. She says for a woman who is admired for beauty it was heartbreaking to lose her hair.

Beating the disease

Early detection, her strong will to survive and the belief that she has an exorbitant number of things left to do – is what helped her stay strong and beat the disease.

Barbara is now an active spokesperson for breast cancer awareness where she strongly advocates regular health checkups and prevention measures.

She says, “My dream is to see a cancer free world and I will do my best to support as many programs as possible to tackle cancer”. She is a part of various initiatives that involve educating women on prevention of breast cancer.

Her most notable work against cancer has been featured on a documentary titled “1 a Minute” where she talks about her journey and experience on how she fought back cancer and won, along with other survivors such as Lisa Ray, Anurag Basu and Jaclyn Smith.
